The women of Air Force Base Langebaanweg, along with their spouses, gathered with great excitement to celebrate the lives of women those who participated in the march and fought for women’s rights in 1956. This year Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme “Invest in women for excellent progress” at the base on Wednesday 21 August.

Among those attending was Chaplain Mandla Mtila, who led the scripture reading and prayer and emphasised the important and value of women. He encouraged women to pray for one another and protect their families. He urged them to strive for a better well-being, both around the base and in their surrounding community.

The motivational speaker for the day, Sirene Paulse, is a survivor of neuromyelitis optica, a very rare autoimmune condition that attacks the nervous system. Her body system suddenly became disconnected to the point where she could no longer do anything for herself.

She mentioned an old associated with the elders, “Kinders is jou rykdom” (Children are your wealth), which she used to highlighted the importance of investing in one’s children. She never understood it until now. Paulse stressed that such investment will bear fruit if we continue to nurture and guide them, even into adulthood.

Paulse’s story is a testament to resilience and faith, a source of encouragement to those attending.

All women who attended the event received a special treat, including shoulder massages from La Vita Spa. Each woman was given a gift voucher for a 30% discount on any booking at the spa. They also received individual spa vouchers for couples, breakfast meal coupon vouchers from Weskus Coffee Roaster and free coffee at The Daily Coffee Shop.
