The Langebaan Stars hosted their first West Coast Acrobatic qualifiers last month.

On Saturday 21 May the Langebaan club also welcomed gymnasts from Malmesbury and Moorreesburg.

The event coincided with the Cape Cup inter club competition.

The local club took home various medals.

Logan Claassen of the Langebaan Stars was the level-1 stage winner for the West Coast District and the Cape Cup winner for 9 years and under. Logan and her team also made it through to the championships.

Other gymnasts to take top honours of the club included Lihle Jela (Level 1, winner 6 years and under, stages, both competitions), Onako Songxishe (Level 5 part of duet winner and level 2, stage Cape cup winner for 9 years and under), Princess Chamisa (Level 2, winner, both competitions, 13 years and under, part of a trio and bronze for stage 2, 12 years and under).

Sue-Ann Williams (Level 2 winner, both competitions, 13 years and under, part of a trio and silver for stage 2, 12 years and under), Cassidy Williams (Level 2, winner in both competitions, 13 years and under, part of a trio and bronze for stage 2, 12 years and under), Amahle Shumani (Level 5, part of trio for highest score and gold for level 5, 13 and under and Level 5 duet, gold) and Ankia van Zyl (Level 5, part of trio with highest score for level 5 and Level 5, 11 years and under duet winner) also shined at the recent event.

Rhene van der Merwe (Level 5 part of trio with highest score in Level 5 and Level 5, 11 years and under winner, part of duet) and Layla Haslam (Level 2, overall stage winner for both competitions for 12 years and under) also achieved top honours.

All the Langebaan gymnasts of level 1, 2 and 5 made it through the trails and will compete in the Acrobatic championships in Stellenbosch during June and August.

At this event all the districts will compete and level 5 gymnasts will additionally take part in the trials for the SA Gymnastic Games, which take place in September and October.

The national games will be held in Pretoria.
