The 9th Annual Velddrif Mile and 3 km Swim event takes place on Saturday 8 November in the Port Owen Marina, Velddrif. The event is open to all levels of fitness and a great way for the whole family to get involved. The race is split into three categories: 500 m fun swim, 1,6 km mile swim and 3 km swim.
The 500 m fun swim is open to all ages and all levels of fitness. Swimmers for the fun event can dress up for a shot at the prize for best spirited on the day.
Assisted swimming devices such as lilos, pool noodles are allowed for this leg of the race but no flippers.
This fun race is a great way to get the whole family involved. Registration: 08:45 to 09:45.
Race briefing: 9.55 at Port Owen Slipway, 1 Marina Centre, Port Owen. Race will start at 10:10.
This year this fun part of the event takes centre stage and will start after the two main events have finished.
The official Velddrif Mile 1,6 km swim is for the more adventurous at heart and swimmers with a bit more stamina and experience in the water.
The 3 km advanced swim is the more serious race and a great training session for all open water swimming enthusiasts. Both categories are open to Skins and Wetsuits. Registration: 06:30 to 07:45. Race briefing for both these events are at 07:45 at East Basin, Elizabeth East Avenue, Port Owen. Both races will start at 08:15 in the canal. Transport from East Basin to the starting points will be provided, but it is always advised that you have your own back up team to keep your things safe and cheer you on.
The end of the race and prize giving will take place at the Port Owen Yacht Club, Bronwen Street, Port Owen. Our event always offers fantastic prizes and other exciting lucky draw prizes in between. Cash prizes are up for grabs for each winning category as well as a trophy and each entrant is guaranteed of a medal a a prize for the best dressed/spirit on the day. The prize giving will start at approximately 11:15.
Entries are open and will close on Friday 31 October. Capped at 200 entries. Wearing a swimming cap is compulsory and a visibility buoy or bright coloured swimwear is preferred for the 1,6 km and 3 km swimming events.
