Construction work at Panorama Primary School in Vredenburg has still not been completed.
In December 2020 Weslander reported that workers from Waycon Projects who were responsible for the fencing of the building site, had not been paid.
It was also said that other subcontractors, including the steel construction contractor, had not been paid in months by contractor Alfdav Constructions. Cecelia Lategan, the community liaison officer, said these rumors were not true.
Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), says the completion of construction works will be implemented through two separate new contracts.
“The first contract is remedial, civil, work to correct / stabilise an embankment being undermined. The second contract is for completion of all outstanding construction works.”
Hammond says that the Provincial Department of Transport & Public Works is responsible for procurement and project is implementation on behalf of the WCED.
She adds that they are still awaiting completion dates.
