Entrepreneurs and the public were treated to an informative workshop that touched on Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) and the role it plays in business on Wednesday 20 November.
The event was hosted by the Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone (SBIDZ) and was held at the White City Multi-Purpose centre in Saldanha.
. B-BBEE is defined as the viable economic empowerment of all black people, particulary women, in rural areas through diverse and integrated socio-economic strategies such as:
. Increasing the number of black people that manage, own and control.
. Facilitating management and ownership by communities, workers, cooperatives and collective enterprises.
. Human resource skills development.
Achieving equitable representation in all occupational workforce levels and categories.
. Preferential procurement from black owned or managed.
. Investment in enterprises that are black owned or managed.
Some of the functions that the B-BBEE group provide include: monitoring, supervising and promoting adherence in the interest in the public, strengthen collaboration between private and public sectors, safeguarding the objectives and receiving complaints as well as promoting advocacy, access to opportunities and educational programmes.
During the presentation it was mentioned that B-BBEE must be part of a company’s strategy and that both the private and public sector must implement this act consistently.
This was also the SBIDZ’s last Togasi workshop for the year.
