Thusong Week is celebrated annually in September. This year it took place from Monday 16 to Friday the 20th.
The Government Communication Information System (GCIS) runs more than 400 Thusong Service Centres across the country, 22 of them in the Western Cape. They aim to bring essential services to poor, remote communities, to be accessed daily.
Esmarelda Mckay of GCIS West Coast said the reality is there are so many respondents to Thusong service-delivery outreaches.
A three-day outreach in the Saldanha Bay municipal (SBM) area covered areas such as Hopefield, Langebaan and Saldanha, where more than 100 received services. Stakeholders included GCIS, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Department of Labour, police, Hopefield Soup Kitchen, SBM as well as Thusong staff.
