An opportunity of a lifetime has come to a young rugby player.
Caleb van Wyk, a learner at Vredenburg High School, has been chosen to be part of a squad that will tour to Spain in September this year. He took part in the Patriot Rhinos Rugby Festival and was scouted by coaches from the squad.
Caleb said as a boy from Saldanha he is very grateful for all the support he has received so far for the tour. “The opportunity to tour Spain in September means a lot to me,” he said.
“It can improve my current and future circumstances and even make me a better rugby player. I am offered the chance to prove myself in the sports world and I will definitely do that here.
“It also provides fun, among other things, to be able to meet famous rugby players.”
Caleb’s family says they are extremely proud of him, adding that he is a good example of what prioritising school academic and sport activities should be, as he makes a point of giving the necessary attention to both his rugby and his academics.
To make this dream come true Caleb needs a total of R39 740 to cover his costs, which include flights, rugby clothing, accommodation, meals and tickets to the Springboks rugby match and more. Assistance from the community will be of great help.
A gospel event with guest artist Allon April will be hosted on Sunday 25 June to raise funds for his tour. The event will take place at Holy Soul Crusade Saldanha. Tickets are pre-sold and cost R70.
