Athletes gave it their all during the second 2024 West Coast Street Mile Series.

Hosted by Langebaan Athletics Club, the last leg of the Street Mile took place on Saturday 21 September at Seabreeze Hall in Langebaan.

Running over a course of three weekends, this year’s event incorporated the 5 km Boland trails, which determined the Boland Athletics South Africa team.

According to Christopher Rodgers, race director, the West Coast Street Mile Series was a huge success.

He saw this event as a great opportunity for locals from the West Coast to take part in their own area. What stood out for Rodgers was the number of junior athletes who participated in their athletic club clothes.

“It tells me that development is taking place at our local clubs. I would like to see clubs and schools work better together, as it is for the future of athletics,” he said.

Interesting to note was the first participation of schools such as Jan van Riebeeck High School, Paul Roos Gymnasium and Paarl Girls’ High and the growth in the participation of top schools outside the West Coast District.

“Another thing that stood out was the positive feedback from legends in the sport such as Elana Meyer (Endurocad), Zola Budd (Stellenbosch High School), Francois Fouché (Dagbreek Street Mile) and Boland Athletics officials about the great presentation of the West Coast Street Mile Series.”

Rodgers added there are even bigger plans ahead for 2025 as well as increasing the winning money.

He would also like to thank each and every person who contributed to the success of the Street Mile Series.
