Service, service, service is key

Providing a fast and comprehensive service is the key to the success of Total Saldanha.

Providing a fast and comprehensive service is the key to the success of Total Saldanha.

Recently, owner Mike Killian and his team were announced as the winners of the 2017 Western Cape J2SE service excellence hero radio competition. Visitors and locals from Saldanha and Langebaan had the opportunity to nominate any person from a business in these two towns who provided an excellent service as a Service Excellence Hero. The competition ran over four weeks on Radio Weskus with seven winners announced on radio and in the Weslander.

On 26 September, Killian was announced as the overall winner. Weslander asked the hosts of the Journey to Service Excellence (J2SE) of the provincial Department of Economic Development and Tourism what made Total Saldanha stand out.

Martie Carstens, Head of Communications, cited Killian’s contribution to the Saldanha community. “He believes in teamwork, and says he cannot do what he does without the support of his team,” she said. “Mr Killian always goes the extra mile and he empowers his team in terms of being better human beings in order to uplift the whole community. Part of what Total Saldanha does is to sweep the streets close to the garage, as he says that one needs to be proud of your community.”

Killian’s hold is that it is his team that won the award. “I only drive the bus. Everyone is on the same page. It is service, service, service. We don’t let clients wait and aim to provide convenience by having in our shop all that they need.”

A total of 135 people from 42 businesses participated in the J2SE programme, and 119 in the workshops.
