Athletes from the Salkoriane Athletics Club waved the West Coast flag high at the SA Athletics Championships held in Oudshoorn recently.
Already on the first day of the championships it was clear the athletes showed what they were capable of and lived up to the club’s mission and vision.
On the first day athlete Leandre
Milfordt won gold in the 5 000 m in a time of 26 minutes and 14 seconds, and an hour later in the long jump she won a silver medal for jumping a distance of 2,59 m.
On day 3 of the championships the Salkor athletes already had 17 medals in the box.
What makes the achievements even more special is that the athletes gave their best for the club’s 35th anniversary which is celebrated today (Thursday 15 May)..

Eugene Gouws: 5 000 m walk, 39 minutes and 4 seconds, (silver), shotput 7,73 m (bronze) and javelin 25,60 m (silver)
Rencia Swartz: Shotput 6,17 m (silver)
Veronica Leroux: Weight throw, 6,33 m (silver) and shotput 5,55 m (bronze)
Sakkie Mentoor: 1 500 m run, 6 minutes and 55 seconds (bronze) and steeplechase, 11 minutes and 26 seconds (silver)
Welize Dokter: Javelin 12,30 m (bronze)
Piet Dokter: Javelin 24,16m (silver)
Hendrick Basson: Shotput 6,71 m (gold) discus 19,30 m (gold) and weight throw 7,73 m (gold)
The club also had beginners who participated in the championship for the first time and did well beyond expectation.
