The police are looking for a person of interest in a robbery and rape of a teenage girl in Tsitsiratsitsi, next to George Kerridge, at the end of September (“Robbers target Tsitsiratsitsi”, Weslander, 3 October).

Capt Tania Helfrich, West Coast police spokesperson, said at the time the two incidents of armed robbery on the night of 28 September and the rape of a 15-year-old girl, were being investigated.

The Vredenburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) now seeks the assistance of the public in locating a man believed to be able to help the police with the investigation of the teenager’s robbery and rape.

The girl and her 14-year-old friend were walking down Chibini Street, around 20:00, when two unknown males approached them.

The robbers, one with a balaclava and the other wearing black clothes, threatened the girls with a firearm and robbed them of R20.

The victim’s friend was chased away and the 15-year-old girl was taken to Sink Street in the neighbouring Ongegund, where one of the robbers allegedly raped her while the other pointed a firearm at her.

The victim managed to escape from the two suspects.

A few hours later, a man was on his way back to his place of residence in Tsitsiratsitsi around 03:30 when two men, one also wearing a balaclava and one with a firearm, robbed him of his jacket and identity document.

The victim was also sprayed with pepper spray.

An appeal is therefore made to anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of this man (see identikit above) to contact Sergeant Helendine May, the investigating officer, on 082 522 1011 or call 022 271 48616/7.
