Various organisations and members of the community made their way to the Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM) on Tuesday 12 November to hand over a memorandum to André Truter, Mayor of SBM stating their grievances, all related to service delivery. Small scale fishers, political parties, faith based organisations and more took part in the peaceful march through the Main Road of Vredenburg to the municipal offices. In the memorandum it is stated that a response time of 7 working days has been given. It also states that the community has spoken and will not stomach, nor accept any delay in response or action. “The acceptable response time for these issues is 7 working days, failure to do so in this period will be seen as another dismissive ploy by SMB to listen to the complaints of communities, and an attempt to silence their voices.” The memorandum ends by saying that this will cause matters to be escalated to various provincial and national departments for urgent intervention.Photo: Noluvu Ludidi
