The combined vision of Dr Andries Pretorius and Clement Matthews, Westvolt Electrical Suppliers and Services Training Centre, which was first envisioned in March 2013, has now become a reality.
Starting with a training needs analysis in 2013, then the building of the training centre itself in 2014, equipped with modern training equipment and training panels, the centre was accredited on Wednesday 6 May by the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EW Seta).
Alderman Elize Steyn, deputy mayor of the Saldanha Bay Muni- cipality, attended the accreditation and noted that skills training, as provided by Westvolt, is much needed on the West Coast and she praised the training centre for the work they have done so far and will do in the future.
Located in Skoolstraat, Vredenburg, the EW Seta accreditation now allows the Westvolt Training Institute to conduct and present various courses. These include Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – RPL is recognition of skills that you have obtained on your experience over time; also, apprenticeship, learnership and short skills courses in Electrical Engineering.
Westvolt is a training partner for the Institute for Quality and, as such, will also be responsible for soft skills applications such as management, business administration and other office-related courses; social auxiliary work and health care, as well as applications related to the Transport Education and Training Authority (Teta) Seta.
Their training delivery methods include e-learning, and lessons on PC or tablet and include part-time classes and full-time classes.
“Skills development in South Africa has taken training from being a company expense to a profit centre,” Westvolt noted.
“Westvolt Training Institute and Institute for Quality will make it their business to maximise opportunities for their clients. We inform, update and deliver solutions based on their needs and strategic goals.”
