The West Coast Youth Orchestra (WCYO) proudly welcomed Ricardo Mackenzie, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, on Sunday 10 November.

He reinforced his heartfelt support for youth involvement in music and the arts. With his visit, Mackenzie and his team presented WCYO with a financial contribution, part of the Western Cape Government’s commitment to nurturing the arts in the region.

“It is always heart-warming to see youth involved in music and the arts, but we know more must be done,” he said. “As the Western Cape Government Cultural Affairs and Sport we will continue with our investment in the arts.”

The visit was a memorable experience for WCYO, which has long been grateful for the Western Cape Government’s support.

“Knowing they care about the arts and the future of our youth is heart-warming and deeply encouraging,” said Carina Brown WCYO director. “The government’s investment will help us continue providing enriching opportunities for the youth of the West Coast and ensure a brighter future.

The morning was filled with music, camaraderie, and mutual appreciation. A group of WCYO students performed for Mackenzie and his team, showcasing the talent and dedication of the young musicians. The visit even included some interactive moments as Mackenzie tried out a few instruments, and a member of his team delighted the audience with a song. The occasion turned into a joyful morning of building bridges, making new friends and finding common ground through the universal language of music.

WCYO thanks Mackenzie and the Western Cape Government for their continued commitment to youth development through the arts and looks forward to furthering this partnership in the future.
