Matric results day is getting closer, and many prospective matriculants have mixed emotions about this day, as 2020 had been a different year, and a difficult one at that.
Hagen Ludick, who did his matric at Piketberg High School, says being in the class of 2020 gave him a sink-or-swim experience.
He admits the first three months of the year were pure bliss, and the matrics experienced everything as much as they could.
“But when the first lockdown set in and we were ordered home, everything took a turn for the worse,” he said.
“I think spending those weeks at home without actually being in class to ask questions and getting the desired help from teachers is where my anxiety began. It took me a while to adapt, even though I had no other choice.”
Francesca Olivier, a matric candidate at Porterville High School, agrees that the year started off with a bang.
“I had a great first term, unaware of the challenging time that lay ahead. At first the new rules and regulations were something to get used to, but later it became easier.”
Having to learn at home and attending online classes most of the year there were also mixed feelings about the final exam.
Olivier says, the thought of final exams was stressful, as matrics were not always sure if they would finish the curriculum before the finals.
“The exam period itself felt stretched, and I believe it tested each student’s motivation and determination, as the exams were definitely out of the ordinary.”
Ludick and Olivier both believe they did well in their exams, and they are patiently awaiting their results.
Results are out on 23 February.
