At The Views Guest House in Piketberg they are always thinking of bright ideas to attract new visitors.
Ashley Swarts manages his family guest house, which was established five years ago.
The guest house attracts a wide variety of guests, who range from holidaymakers from Cape Town to paragliders from Sweden, who return to Piketberg every December.
Swarts says the guest house is his passion and he does the marketing and promotion himself.
“We need to market Piketberg as a destination with accommodation, activities and restaurants as a collective to attract tourists to the area,” Swarts says.
The View has five employees, who accommodate a maximum of 12 guests. One of Swarts’ challenges have been coming to grips with municipal regulations that stipulate that a maximum of six rooms can be used at a time, which means that two of his rooms have to stand empty.
Swarts’ future plans include developing a festival as a way to put Piketberg on the map and to attract tourists to the area; he is also thinking of starting a weekly farmers’ market and a mountain biking event.
