Westvolt, situated in School Street, Vredenburg, recently did the West Coast proud when it brought home a prestigious award from the provincial round of Productivity SA’s awards ceremonies, held in Stellenbosch.

The award recognises productivity in the emerging sector. Productivity SA is an organisation that promotes employment growth and productivity and is managed in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act.

But the provincial round held in September had a sequel on Friday, when Westvolt’s owners Miranda and Clement Matthews received another award as a national finalist in the emerging sector at Gallagher Estate in Midrand. They were one of the ten finalists from the Western Cape that passed the organisation’s stringent assessments.

Westvolt, an industrial electrical supplier and skills academy, had humble beginnings in the garage of the Matthews’ home in Langebaan in 2009. Today the company employs 10 people.

The couple would like to thank their hardworking staff, Duferco Steel Processing, other local industries and all their loyal clients who have been instrumental to their success. According to Clement, the supplier part of the business pays the bills, but its community work and training initiatives are the couple’s true passion. Westvolt’s skills academy offers artisan training in accordance with the workforce needs of the Saldanha Bay IDZ (Industrial Development Zone).
