The online application process for 2021 school enrolment has opened but parents should bear in mind that there are some technical problems regarding the system.
According to Brian Schreuder, head of education at the Western Cape Department (WCED), since the site opened for new applications, there have been various technical challenges. The Department’s admissions system are part of the national government’s State Information Technology Agency (SITA) which was affected by load shedding.
Over 8 400 people registered on the site on Monday 17 February, the day applications opened, but only 3 688 completed the application process.
Schreuder also mentions that the online application process in the province is still in its second year of piloting and they are addressing the challenges as they arise but pleads with parents not to panic.
Applications close in Tuesday 17 March.
Parents are encouraged to apply online at admissions.westerncape.gov.za/admissions. Parents who are unable to register online can also apply manually. Schools have been informed that paper-based applications must also be made available.
