Young people participated in a G20 Focus Workshop Dialogue at the Louwville Library on Thursday 19 June.

This forum, organised in honour of Youth Month during which the voices of the young are central, was hosted in partnership with the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), ELRU and Department of Social Development (DSD).

The G20 members include the world’s major economies, representing 85% of global Gross Domestic Product, more than 75% of international trade and about two-thirds of the world population.

The workshop offered a dynamic space to engage with core G20 priorities, and particularly youth empowerment and economic development. Participants expressed their views, exchanged fresh ideas, and examined how they can become catalysts for change in their communities. A keynote session on NYDA grant funding illuminated practical pathways for turning aspirations into action. DSD led a compelling exercise, in which local challenges were identified and collaboratively brainstormed youth-driven solutions.

Building on this forward momentum, phase 2 of the initiative will shift to hands-on skill building. The next sessions will deal with business planning and proposal writing, equipping them with the tools they need to transform their ideas into meaningful ventures.

It was a pivotal first step in nurturing a generation of informed, confident and resourceful young leaders.
