The annual open day of the Saldanha Bay Water Quality Forum Trust (SBWQFT) takes place on 26 October at the Athene Conference Hall, Club Mykonos.
SBWQFT, a registered NGO, made up of representatives of industry, local government, the environmental sector and local society, has for more than a decade commissioned monitoring of the greater Saldanha Bay and Langebaan Lagoon, resulting in the annual State of the Bay Report that will be presented at the open day.
Open day itinerary:
Coffee will be served from 08:30.
The open day will start promptly at 09:00 with a welcome address by Anton Bredell the Western Cape Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning.
At 09:20 Herman Jonker will give feedback on industrial growth in the Saldanha Bay area.
Melissa Lintnaar-Strauss will give an overview on the Department of Water and Sanitation’s Water Resource Classes Project with focus on the Saldanha Bay region at 09:50.
At 10:20 Nicole van Gessellen will talk about Imposex, a disorder in gastropods (sea snails) caused by the toxic effects of certain marine pollutants.
From 10:50, guests will take a short break.
At 11:10 Dr Barry Clarke will present the State of the Bay Report for 2018.
There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion after each address.
A finger lunch will follow at 13:00.
