Learners and young people looking to study in 2020 should get ready, as most tertiary institutions are now accepting applications.
We have put together a guide with applications to some of the country’s universities and colleges.
Prospective students who are eligible for fee-free education need, firstly, to meet the minimum requirements for their study choice and have an annual household income of less than R350 000 a year if they’re a first-time applicant.
Here are the application dates for the Western Cape’s biggest universities:
. University of South Africa (UNISA) applications open in August.
. University of the Western Cape’s (UWC) opens in May.
. University of Cape Town’s (UCT) opened on 1 April and will close on 31 July.
. Stellenbosch University’s (US) opened on 1 March.
Applications for the Faculty of Medicine close 31 May, and on 30 June for all other undergraduate programmes. The closing date for a Diploma in Public Accountability is on 1 October.
. Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) applications open on 13 May.
Universities have online application portals that make it easy to apply for one’s studies without physically having to go to an institution.
. Private and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, such as West Coast College, Northlink College, Damelin and City Varsity, are open throughout the year.
Application dates depend on the courses students are interested in, so they must contact these institutions directly for application information.
